Melancholic Musing

Sigh... As the rain patters down the tall columns of these white sentinels, my heart aches and longs for time lost and company of all dear to me. I entertain these thoughts and as "if's" get replaced by "i wish", but I got my reality check when the clock on my table happily struck 11.45p.m.

I wondered, if things were meant to be, and destiny sets the motion of fate, is there anything that one can do to change it? Oh..woe be me..woe be me.. People and circumstances weave in and out of our tapestry of life like a needle in skilled hands yet one gets prick every now and then.

The people I've met, the things I've seen, the times I've spent, the memories I've gathered, these seem to be the very essence of me akin to the soul that gives personality to thought. I will always cherish these and I hope everyone would do the same. For all the 'might be's', it's best if
they become 'will be's' and as I'm still coming to grip with the harsh realities of life, I hope not to stop dreaming of my life but to make that dream, life. I will take fate in my hands and I may not alter it to my will but I will keep it close to me for all that matters. Family, inner circle, friends - you know that I love you.

Da Vinci Code

There is many a tongue set wagging with the release of this much anticipated movie. The book was phenomenal to say the least and personally, I enjoyed it immensely. The plot was riveting and the way the story meander with facts, history and fiction thrown in was just superb as much as it is intricate.

Any fan of the book should just watch the film and watch the celluloid adaptation of the prose come alive. It has taken some liberties with the plot in order to fit it into the 2 hour plus timeslot but it has nevertheless captured some of the essence of the book. Most would complain about the short-cut route taken to make the story shorter, thereby cutting off a lot of vital and engaging scenes that were so relevant in the book, myself included. A true-to-the-book fan would be disappointed but for the majority of readers would find it entertaining to say the least. That said, not many would appreciate the movie, though. It is seriously a movie for facts/history/popcorn/Da Vinci Code buffs. It is peppered with a lot of facts and trivias (accuracies are disputed here) and this would appeal to them. The general laymen would not appreciate this. It would be terribly boring, not to mention high-brow for the uninitiated. As such, I would not recommend this to just any person. It is seriously a movie on for the categories that I've outlined above. I do know for a fact that many are just as well queuing up for the movie due to the hype and publicity the book has received.

This would not be a far cry from the hype generated from Tolkien's movie adaptations but those movies were easier to understand compared to the Da Vinci Code. People would not like to read volumes of heavy Middle-Earth English in order to understand the story. Likewise here.

The chemistry between the two lead actors was just disappointing. There was no spark, no life. Sigh. Silas and Teabing stole the show for me. Ian McKellan was very convincing in his role as Teabing. Silas was just beautifully painful to watch. His angst and suffering seemed so real. He carried his role well. The last scene of the movie was the best I've enjoyed in the entire movie. Again, I reiterate, that any reader of the book should go and watch the movie. It may disappoint them on the whole but there will be scenes that will just take you back to the book. For me, it was the last scene. I still preferred the book though. :)

The blade and chalice guarding o'er her gates.
Adorned in master's loving art, she lies.
She rests at last beneath the starry skies."

Beautiful...simply beautiful. Remarkable!

Mommmm!!!

Funny how time changes....when 'Mom' was the beacon for everything we knew and also the arbiter of justice. Now as far apart as we are physically, the presence does not however cede. She remains and will always be that special someone that holds a special place in my heart and life. From calls of 'Mom' to 'Mummy' to 'Mah' to whatever denomination, titles does not displace her special status. She is my rock, my alpha and omega, that special someone, that inner sanctum of my heart. I'll build my altar of life and she is my deity. She's no one but my mother. :)

Thanks for everything, Mum! :) I love you.

Happy Mother's Day.

Fallen hopes

With all the hype and attention the badminton team has been getting, it's only natural to expect the best from the national team. Honestly, I thought they would win. They stood a good chance being pitted against South Korea and Denmark only instead of the bigger guns of China and Indonesia. Indonesia is now a pale shadow of its former might but would still pack a punch that would send Malaysia knocking.

Instead the typical malaise happened. The captain, Choon Han got injured which definitely worked against us when the time came to face Denmark. The way Hafiz played the game making unforced errors, repeatedly, one after another is yet another dent in the Malaysian hope of ever obtaining the coveted cup of badminton. His earlier games were alright, and there were flashes of brilliance not unlike that of Heryanto Arbi with his strong back smashes that neatly find their marks. Against Jonassen, there were only mistakes after blunders after errors..... totally destroying our hope of ever securing a point from the singles. The third singles ... which was supposed to be won by us... speechless. The player might as well pack his bags and leave the national team. The first singles? Quite well fought, but not good enough. The doubles? Kudos to both the doubles teams. They were the highlight of the entire Malaysian campaign. They've beaten players ranked higher, they've basically played well.

All said and done, they've played comparably under the new format...which brings me to another rant topic... The new system of scoring. I don't like it. It takes the grace of badminton away, making it so much more fast-paced and aggresive. There is no more court craft, just aggresive play-style. No doubt players may opt for rallies and stroke-play, they wouldn't be able to beat an attacking player on this new format.

Good luck to both teams in tomorrow's finals.

I feel so much better now. It's always better out than in, as that ugly brute of a Shrek's mother used to say.

Of catwalks and cramped feet

My brief but wonderful sojourn in the land of aplenty has abruptly come to an end. Gatherings were fun....pictures were lovely....your mere presence, absolutely divine. :) The passing of April brings nothing but beautiful memories and it is something that I hope to experience more. Life is really what you make of it. There are so many things to see, do, touch, feel, ... you get the drift. Life is like an opportunity to savour the many delicate pleasures of existence. Each with their own inner desires and needs, and life provides that outlet to be whatever it is that you want to be. To be something you think you want...to be someone you want to be... to have choices. To borrow from Winston Churchill... 'We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.'

I digress....Yea, my trip back was fun. Not really bumpy. Lotsa sight to behold...I'll miss you. Missing you already.. :)

The lights flashed and twinkled along the path...The retro music blared, giving a festive and groovy atmosphere. There were strobes...but no grinding bodies on the floor. Instead, finely sculpted bodies sashayed down the runway, swaying and moving with all the sensuality and fluidity of a nymph in her element. Yea...the models on the runway were something alright. It was from some spring collection. I've forgotten the label. It was in Mid-Valley.

My feet needs some good rub...the models' feet would welcome the same treatment too, I'm sure.
