Decisions decisions decisions
Life is full of decisions. Ever since you can rationalise, you begin to question. At the same time, you begin to think. And the decisions start coming…relentless in its pursuit for certainty.
Don’t we sometimes question the choices that we make? Have you not ever regretted making a choice that in hindsight you wished you would not have made? How do we even arrive at the decision? Perhaps that is the question we should be asking.
It is undeniable that our decisions define us. But for all those times that we are uncertain… where do we turn to, to help us make the decision?
Fret not…for now a college in Malaysia offers Bachelor of Decision Science (Hons). OMG! I know what you’re thinking…I was thinking the same thing too. And the first thing I did was to laugh. I am not belittling the course/college nor the students who actually enrolled/planning to. At first blush, it just struck me as so ridiculous to even have such a degree. But who am I to say… I am not an expert…Heck, I am not a “professional” decision maker so how can I decide if this course is utter nonsense.
Nevertheless, having read through the entire syllabus it just sounds like another one of those generic Business Admin/derivatives but with a slight twist. It sounds so general and in fact it is. Too general. You’ll be doing a lot of mathematics/statistics to help to arrive at your decision (thus using these mathematical statistics as proof that the decision was arrived at scientifically) Not that having a Business degree is bad… It’s fantastic actually… they make a lot of money. :D But if someone asks you and you say you’re a Decision Science graduate, chances are you’ll just get mocked.
I guess it is up to the students who are enrolled/planning to, to change the minds of the skeptics that this is not another run-of-the-mill degree.
For those who are interested, it is being offered at Kuala Lumpur Infrastructure University College (KLIUC). See, I’ve even advertised for them.
Ok. You can stop laughing now. :)
