Toast to Good times!

Our last meeting, my Biology group, at The Windmill. We had the pleasure of having Eunice and Yee Siang included too. This time, I managed to catch up, albeit only so much, with the ever-elusive Peter. Witty repartees, casual talk, future plans were exchanged, over Westerns and as the the 19th hour draw to an end, we had to wrap things up quick because Peter and Yee Siang had to leave. Photos were taken and farewells uttered.

Later we headed on the Geographers at Jonker's Walk. Had a drink there, talked some more, and bid each other goodbye.

I wish them luck in their university. :)

San Pedro

Today would be the last day of the annual San Pedro festival. I was supposed to meet up some friends there but decided not to go. I'm sure the place would be packed, the traffic horrible and chances of catching any disease pretty high. With all these inherent risks involved, I've decided to forgo the opportunity and wait for tomorrow to meet them up.

I hope the festival was a success. Didn't read much about it in the papers though, and I don't see much signs being erected announcing the festival.

Last Gathering

We were supposed to have a class reunion at Sampan, organized by Kenneth and Eng Onn (at least that's what I was told). It was supposed to start at 7.00 but due to the fashionably late Huan Ren, we had to change venue (actually it was because the place was booked for a bank function, but let's keep the story exciting; sorry, HR) we head on down Klebang to ....err, I've forgotten the place, but it's on the same stretch of road as the International School there. It has a romantic setting, dimmed lights, a yard fronting the oceanline and all...The food however was pretty skimpy on the portions, considering the price we had to pay.

Everyone exchanged information as to their next university intake, courses and places and which university taking the bulk of the info-xchange, but there were some small gossips thrown in. Everyone seemed to be having a good time and I had the pleasure of meeting some friends that I thought I'd never see again, like Adrian Lau. :) Anyway, after all said and done, photos were taken and the company parted ways.

I went to Melaka Raya with Jih Houh and Mei Yoke and together we joined another crew, this time Choon Chiet's crew at a Malay eatery. Small talk here , chit chat there...and they're off to play Dota while I headed home. That's of course, not before I had some memorable conversation in the parking lot with Kenneth, Siong Kiat, and Hock Seng.

Barbeque

At time of posting, we're having barbeque at Desmond's place. It is supposed to be some sorta last gathering before everyone heads to Uni. It was the usual gang, sweating over the hot bbq grill chatting and eating. Nothing much transpired but nevertheless the presence of friends was somewhat comforting. In all likeliness, this would be the last such gathering unless a massive effort is undertaken by whomever to actually bring us all together again, and under such circumstances. I'm sure it'll be a fraction of this group come next gathering at each outing.

We had the usual marinated chicken wings (thanks to Des, Berv, Phil, Des's mom and sis(?) ), sting-ray, chicken fillet, hotdogs, artificial crab meat sticks, corn-on-the-cobs, hmmm let me see if I'm missing anything else....nope, that's all. We had 'cincau' to quench our thirst.

Much much later, we had our 'Dota' rounds at Utopia.

In retrospect, I enjoyed the bbq. :) The bickering, teasing, insinuating, laughter, and basically everything else has all the hallmark of another successful outing. Way to go!!!

Batman Begins

Finally a Batman movie worth watching after Batman Returns. The first 2 instalments of this very famous hero franchise were truly classics. They captured the dark and gothic Gotham atmosphere, and also portray the caped crusader as a hero. The later ones, like the ones played by George Clooney, Val Kilmer were more like spoofs of the original Michael Keaton's Batman, lampooning Batman's intelligence and not to mention paint silly pictures of baddies in Gotham. You would think that the villains are adolescents having their first chance at criminal stardom with all the outrageously lurid costumes/makeup.

I digress. The movie was worth the RM8 (aren't they getting more expensive every year). They captured the birth of Batman pretty well, illustrating his sad childhood blessed with such opulence to his early trainings under the League of Shadows. Batman was finally unveiled, with the trademark bat-spotlights; albeit a more crude insignia of the bat, his gadgets and armour as well a vehicle which in my opinion, looked bulky and ugly. The cloth was one my favourite gadgets in the movie though. It supposedly hardens in to anything it is cut into when charged with electricity due to the reformation of molecules or some sort. This was to be his cape. Katie Holmes played a very minor character in this movie, and her role wasn't really fleshed out. We also see Gordon who rose as an ordinary policeman when Bruce was still a kid into an honest, and bribe-hating detective to a Lieutenant. If we follow the story further, he later rose to be Commisioner Gordon in the future Batman saga. The villain, Ra's Al Ghul, played by Liam Neeson who was his mentor during his League of Shadow days, wasn't much of a theatrical villain as Batman later ones, like the famous Joker and Two-Face. There wasn't much hero-villain clashes, as the movie rather concentrates on exploring the character of Bruce Wayne. His day-to-day figure takes precedence here.

All in all, this is a good movie. A good Batman movie in years. The general viewing is kinda strictly for Batman fans only or those knowledgable in Batman lore. The rest may just go and enjoy movie as it is but will feel rather short-changed.

Hallelujah!

Alright... my comp is back! First thing I did was to reinstall my important programmes and get online. Heheh.. :P

Also, I found out about the unfortunate incident that befell my friends 2 days ago. I visited Yee Siang who got injured, in Mahkota Medical Centre. For the full account, here's a first-hand narrative from my friend who was one of the unfortunate ones.

For the record, Yee Siang is out of the hospital. He lost his brand-new handphone on that day, just hours after having bought it. Talk about tough luck! : /

I hope this reminds us all to be wary and not let our guard down. Try not to stray in dark and uninhabited places too. These sick bastards will stop at nothing to get what they want. I hope they burn for their crimes.

Lightning does strike twice!

Oh well....this would again be my post in a while. My ailing computer has been sent to the hospital again. I do hope that this would not be any longer than a couple of days though, I've got a list of things to get done online, (and of course my 3 mages in www.the-reincarnation.com) . That said, I do hope I will be able to post here again as soon as possible.

In the meantime, do take care and all the best! :P

Last day of a long, enjoyable week!

Tried to buy tickets but a paper pasted on the wall of the ticket counter said that the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith as well as another movie was strictly 18. When the ticket attendent was queried, she said it was being strictly enforced. No children below 18 for these movies. I told them that only 1 was below 18 and the rest are adults, and even the parent of the minor but was flatly given the negative. Asked if the ticket could be exchanged for another movie instead since the outing couldn't be a family one and got another negative answer instead. Way to go GSC. Censorship boards too. GSC is monopolizing Malacca. I hope TGV opens up to get them to clean up their acts. Blow! Don't even get me started on the issue of censorship.

Hmm..that could be a topic for another day. I'm tired.

I wish all school-going students a great start ahead. Don't be sad, enjoy these moments. Savour them. I regretted not savouring them enough. Now i'm just an aged, old, cranky prune. Yea, listen to me. These are the best moments in your life. No outside worries other than school-related stuff which are pittance compared to the harsh realities outside the cloistered ivy walls.

Tiring

After just a few hours of sleep, I had to practically force down my breakfast before my game. Had a nice 2 hours worth of game. It was a great game, but I felt i could've done better had I gotten better sleep. Game was at 10.

Anyway, when I got home, my head was getting pretty heavy indeed. Had lunch of sorts, did the laundry, read the newspaper, then I crashed. It was too much to bear. : P

Mr. and Mrs. Smith

This movie is truly enjoyable. Watched with a couple of friends. The movie had a lot of witty repartee, and blood-pumping scenes. The action was commendable, and the chemistry was totally sizzling. This wonderful action flick also comes with its own brand of Aesop. Too bad that it's rated 18 though. There are some conversations regarding sex and a small intimate scene but that's about all the 18 stuff there is to it. The conversation was swift, (but funny) and the scene was cut at the right parts (well, you know the censors ) so, I don't know why it has to be 18.

Had a small mamak session afterwards. Had some chit-chat over roti canai. I ordered iced Milo but was given iced Nescafe instead. Talked well into the night. Had some refreshing conversation and also some periods of enlightenment. Hmm..must be the coffee.

Yea, speaking of which, coffee usually doesn't give me any effect whatsoever. I tried downing coffee whenever i had to cram for the exams but they never seem to work. On this day however, the blasted thing kept me tossing and turning on the bed till my back hurt. Maybe it wasn't the coffee but i am highly suspicious that it is. I must get the recipe from the shop. This dratted thing could come in handy.

Mmm...

Had a little adventure of sorts with my brother. Went cycling all around the neighbourhood and beyond. Travelled dirt paths, crossing quaint small kampungs, following cars.... lol. It was fun and wacky. Brought back memories of how I used to cycle everywhere. Saw chickens on trees, dirty canteens, run-down tennis courts, some really beautiful houses, many new shops, and yea, met a lot of dirt too. Right on my face. The pollution is getting worse in many towns. It really isn't safe anymore to cycle or jog in a heavily populated residential area.

Makes me wish for more greens and nature back home...

Happy Genesis

Yea.... i'm aging,. ..don't remind me.

But I just love the date though, June 6th. I'm one 6 short of the infamous tri-number. I wonder if next year, this very same date would grant me some special powers. 06-06-06 or 666, as I would rather put it. :P

Anyway, thanks for all the best wishes and warm greetings from both family and friends. You guys will always be close to me. And those lovely gifts too. :)

/me runs to open up presents!

Guy's night out

Went to have dinner with my good friends, :P , at a Steamboat restaurant in Melaka Raya. Had a filling dinner..though the place was a little crowded. It was kinda hot too, but the great company more than made up for it. It's been a while since I last saw Desmond, Shaun, Philip and yea, I kinda missed them. :)

Anyway, after dinner , we had a short gaming session at Utopia. Come 12 a.m. sms's starts to pour in, reminding me of my impending age. Yup, I'm very grateful to have many wonderful friends and acquaintances that sent me those greetings. Thank you, i say. :) Thank you very much.

And yea, thanks guys for the shirt and cap. :P Hehe.. You were wonderful! :D

Star Wars again

Watched Star Wars Episode III for the third time. :)

So, this is how liberty dies.... with thunderous applause..

The movie is littered with corny dialogue but there were some quotable scenes worth remembering. It's the CGI splendour and thematic ideology that makes Star Wars the icon that it is today....not the structured and stilted dialogue.

This time, I managed to dissect the movie scene by scene and run them through my head. I wanted to note down a lot of things but sadly, I can't seem to remember enough to count on more than one hand. : / So much for good memory. Bah!

In the scene where the Emperor's aide conferred with Senator Organa, was the conference 2 way or one way? If it was reciprocal, that should mean the aide was able to see Yoda who was directly in front of the screen.

The Light Side had 2 known surviving members of great calibre. This should have been their trump card to beat the Emperor. No doubt Obi-Wan wasn't really much of a hope to go against the Emperor but with Yoda to take the brunt of his attacks, Obi-Wan could serve to provide extra stress to turn the tide in favour of the Light Side. Perhaps Yoda didn't want to risk jeapordizing Obi-Wan and likely the future guardian of the soon-to-be-born twins. But surely it was a risk worth taking... I'm not inclined to believe that Yoda actually foresaw the future where Anakin finally fulfilled his destiny as the One that would bring balance to the Force. A more likely explanation for this notion would be that Yoda has unflinching trust in the prophecy that Anakin was the One. That said however, gathering from the flow of dialogue in the movie, this is not the case. It was clear that the Emperor's move was unprecedented and this resulted in the massacre of the Jedis.

A lot of problem could be solved if only the Council really took Anakin under their wing. Their lack of trust resulted in a communication breakdown and relationship meltdown.

I liked General Grievous' wheel-runner-thingamajig. It really is quite a mechanical beauty. The sheer functionality and not to mention cool X-factor just made it one of the best vehicles in the entire movie. Also, Naboo ships tend to be metallic silver coloured ... whole...head to toe. I guess it's their trademark. I liked Count Dooku's ship with the chute. Now that's one cool ship.

Peaceful friday

Done nothing much.... Finished The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time. It was refreshingly original. A lot of trivias inside too.Truly a good read. For the uninitiated, get one and read it now! Working on my Mammon Inc as I type this. The start was enough to get me hooked. Let's just see if it will disappoint, but the Force tells me, it won't.

Going to clean my closet after I finish typing this...so...wish me luck!

Shopping yet again..

Alright...it isn't the fact that I like it, but my mom wanted to get a new pair of sneakers that we got dragged along. Alright, I WANTED to go along. :) I like going out with my mom. Anyway, when we got there, it turned out that the clothes department was on sale too. So...

In the end, mom got a couple of trousers for Dad, and I got a couple of shirts for myself. They were a real bargain. Didn't managed to get the intended sneakers though, so i guess one of these days will result in another round of shopping...

The buns were lovely.... the crusty caramelized smell of the outer layer is simply heavenly.. Not to mention the thick chocolate layer embedded within. Ah...What's more they cost a mere RM1.20 each. It's a steal!
